What goes in a wedding program?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! If you are reading this, you are likely head-deep in wedding plans. Following are some tips to help you plan out the content of your wedding program.
First of all, you will want to list your full names, the date, time and location of the wedding. It will read something like this:

The Marriage Ceremony Uniting

Rachel Dawn Guest

Michael Dean Williams

Saturday, the first of December

Two thousand and eight

Two o'clock in the afternoon

The Manor House

St. Augustine, Florida

Next, you will list the details of your ceremony. I always recommend that you consult your officiant to help you with this part. There are so many different services and each officiant puts their own style into the service. Also, different religions have different basic ceremony outlines. I will blog on the different types of services separately.

Following the ceremony, you will list the family and wedding party. Make sure to include parents, grandparents, maid and/or matron of honor, bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, ushers, musicians, officiant, wedding coordinator, guest book attendant, program attendant, and anyone else involved in your big day.
The rest of your wedding program can be used for additional information including:
  • Reception information (when, where and directions if necessary)
  • Special Thanks (a paragraph or two where you thank your guests for coming, your parents for everything, etc...)
  • Poems or Verses that are special to you
  • Dedications (something like this: "On this special day in our lives, we lovingly remember Mr. and Mrs. James A. Moore, Grandparents of the Bride").
  • Funny facts about your wedding party and why each of them is special to you
  • A story about how you two met, or your proposal story
  • Intresting tid-bits about things you are using in the wedding (something like this: "the bride's veil was first worn in 1968 by her mother").
  • Your "At Home" address (where you will be residing after the wedding)
